Q2 2025: KEF Passenger Numbers Align with Forecast

Keflavík Airport (KEF) welcomed a total of 2,222,402 guests during the second quarter of 2025 (April–June).

De­part­ing pass­eng­ers ex­ceed for­ec­ast

The total number of guests at Keflavík Airport (KEF) was 2,222,402 in the second quarter of the year, April–June 2025. KEF’s passenger forecast had projected 2.23 million guests. Meaning there were 9,000 fewer than expected or a difference of 0.4% below forecast.

Departing passengers numbered 759,000, while the forecast had predicted 746,000. Thus, there were 13,000 more departing passengers than expected, or +2% above the airport's forecast.

Airline seat capacity increased by 5% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period last year. Similarly, the total number of passengers was 5% higher in Q2 this year compared to Q2 last year.

Fewer conn­ect­ing pass­eng­ers

Connecting passengers, those using KEF as a transit hub without staying in Iceland, totalled 684,000 in Q2. The passenger forecast had estimated 717,000 connecting passengers for this period, making it 33,000 fewer or -5% below forecast.

Ic­eland­ers ea­ger to tra­vel

Icelanders showed strong travel activity in the second quarter, with departures exceeding expectations. While the forecast had estimated 187,000 Icelanders would depart from KEF, the actual number surpassed 219,000. That is 32,000 more than anticipated, representing a 17% increase above expectations.

Fewer for­eign tour­ists

Foreign guests departing from KEF totalled 539,000 from April to June this year. KEF’s passenger forecast had anticipated 559,000 foreign guests in Q2. Thus, there were 20,000 fewer foreign guests than anticipated or 4% below forecast.

According to data from the Icelandic Tourist Board, Americans were the largest group of foreign tourists in Q2, just over 183,000, which accounts for 34% of all foreign tourists. Next were the British with 43,000 (8% of total), Germans with 37,000 (7%), Poles with 24,000 (4%), and Chinese with 23,000 (4%).
